Shadows After Midnight and Murder After Midnight
Writers’ Guidelines After Midnight anthologies in the light horror, mystery, Western and sci-fi genres. Please use the following guidelines when submitting your work. Length: Stories may range from 500 to 5,000 words
Rating: The After Midnight anthologies are intended for adults but submitted stories should not contain any graphic violence, gore, x-rated sex scenes or obscene language. But we don’t want baby pabulum either. Find a way to tell your story that is exciting and intriguing without being off-putting.
Pay Scale: Anthologies are currently featured for sale in the Welkin Press store on ebay, and eventually will also be hosted on WelkinPress.com.
The second week of each month, all contributing writers will receive a proportionate share of 30 percent of the net profits from the previous month’s sales, capping out at a maximum of $1.50 per word. Since this is a new venture and we don’t yet have any sales figures, it is difficult for us to accurately estimate what the final pay for each story will be. However, since the anthologies will remain posted and available for sale on ebay, it’s likely that as the popularity of the AfterMidnight series grows, writers will continue to earn incomefrom the publication of their works. This is in contrast to the print world where writers receive a one-time payment for the publication of their short fiction.
Payment Method: All writers will be paid via Paypal. If you do not yet have a PayPal account, visit paypal.com to set up an account so you can receive your monthly payment. You will be sent a monthly royalty statement by email and your earnings will be deposited directly into your PayPal account the second week of each month.
Rights: Welkin Press is purchasing electronic rights to your story, which includes but is not limited to: 1. online publication in one of the four After Midnight anthologies which may be made available for sale either through ebay or welkinpress.com 2. The disposition of any other rights to your work are subject to negotiation between Welkin Press and the contributing author. Typically these rights may include movie or television rights, CD rights, DVD rights, podcast rights and future rights to technologies that have yet to be invented or exploited. The standard split on the sale of these rights is 50 percent to Welkin Press and 50 percent to be divided proportionately among the authors of the work in question. For the sale of these rights, your share depends upon the number of stories you have in the affected volume, not the number of words in your story. For example, if you have 2 stories in a volume that a producer wants to option, you would receive 20 percent of the author’s 50-percent share of the sale. If you have one story, you would receive 10 percent. If a buyer chooses to option just one story, the author of that story would receive the full 50 percent share. 3. The sale of print rights must be negotiated on a caseby- case basis with Welkin Press, but generally speaking, we want our authors to make as much money as they can from their works and are not opposed to such sales as long as the reprint is branded with the appropriate “After Midnight” title.
